Business responsablity to the public

This week’s (final) blog topic explores a possible ethical dilemma.  The purpose of this assignment is to discuss what responsibilities a business owner has to the public.  I believe that, regardless of the time and effort required, a business person does have responsibility to communicate effectively to the public.  Regardless of customer base, the needs of the public will always be primary to any business.  For example, say that your business is a manufacturing plant that makes then ships items to other places to sell.  Yes, something that happens locally will not affect the consumer, however the conduct of the person(s) in charge of the plant will become publicly apparent.  For example, websites such as Yelp could include information which could directly affect consumers based on reviews made by local people.  Additional other websites and news outlets can show negative information (true or not) which would affect the company bottom line.  This can become an issue because this type of negative information becomes detrimental to a company.  After all, what consumer knowingly wants to do business with a company who has been accused of improperly dumping their waste or trash, have poor work environments for their employees, or does not appear friendly in any other way.  The importance of good business practices is overwhelmingly important regardless of business type because consumers expect aboveboard behavior from the companies that they do business with.  Happy consumer’s increases business as a direct result of good and positive business practices.
