Blog Topic #8:

This week our assignment is: Assume that your college president has received many student complaints about campus parking problems. You are appointed to chair a student committee organized to investigate the problems and recommend solutions.

Parking Issue Process For Committee Review
·         Inadequate Student Parking Spaces
o   Parking needs during high attendance times
§  Designated motorcycle parking needed
§  Student Parking in areas around campus
§  Parking fees charged
·         Parking fees for night students
o   Lighting of parking lots during night classes
§  UPD courtesy and assistance needs / functions
·         Vandalism
·         Harassment
·         Possible Committee Focus Needs
o   Project mission Statement
o   Plan to share discussion for transparency to student population
o   Goal time-frame to come up with a compromise
·         End Results needed
o   Time-frame goal established for resolution
o   Plan to roll out changes

The end result of following an outline such as this would serve to set time limits and make goals apparent for the entire committee which serves to allow the committee to use their time well and establish a clear goal for their meeting time.  Student issues such as this (or really issues for any group) rely on organized goals and outlines serve to allow those involved to keep the best interest of the whole on task.

New PSA Assignment

This week’s blog assignment:
Other than possibly wrinkling their noses at that faint smell that wafts out of the plastic bags when they bring clothes home from the dry cleaner, many consumers probably don’t pay much attention to the process that goes on behind the scenes at their neighborhood cleaner. However, traditional dry cleaning is a chemically intense process—so much so that these facilities require special environmental permits and monitoring by government agencies.

At Kansas City’s Hangers Cleaners, the process is different—much different. The company’s innovative machines use safe liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) and specially developed detergents to clean clothes. The process requires no heat (making it easier on clothes and has no need for the toxic, combustible perchloroethylene used in conventional dry cleaning (making it safer for employees and the environment). Customers can tell the difference, too. As one put it, “Since I started using Hangers, my clothes are softer, cleaner, and they don’t have that chemical smell.”

Because many consumers aren’t familiar with the technical details of traditional dry cleaning, they don’t immediately grasp why Hangers’ method is better for clothes, employees, and the environment. In 250-500 words, write a “script” for a radio commercial explaining why Hangers is different.

Narrator:
Kansas City’s own Hangers Cleaners wishes to thank our loyal customers.  2016 is the 3rd year in a row we have ranked as the number one dry cleaner in a row for the Kansas City Metro area.  Our motto is simple: Treat our customers like we want to be treated.  For this reason we use only the best available processes in our dry cleaning service.  Our innovative machines use safe liquid carbon dioxide and special detergents to clean your clothes.  Due to this process we often hear from our customers how much softer and cleaner their clothes are.  Plus the smell is much more pleasant.  It is a joy to use to use innovative and better resources which will help your clothes last longer and fit better.  The lack of heat and chemicals that traditional dryer cleaners use enables us to provide this superior service to all of our clients.  Additionally, the lack of toxic chemicals is better for our customers, our employees, and our environment.
Stop by and check out what has made us the best dry cleaner in Kanas City.

Responses: the best way to respond in public

This week our blog assignment is to find a review to somewhere, where the business has replied in a nasty way.  I have chose to use the above article which references a bad yelp review.  I spent a considerable about of time trying to find a bad review response and frankly I thought that the very few responses I did find were handled well.  I think this issue of nasty responses has lessened over time mostly through an education process and through the change in service abilities through various websites.  There are now many different options available which offer businesses an educated way to respond in a respectful and appropriate way.  Which is why I chose the article above.  The restaurant representative chose to use the situation as a way to educate the reviewer and everyone else why their policy was set the way it was.  The well placed example and even better use of humor made the review a helper rather than a nasty situation worse.  Additionally the appropriate example served to cut off the thinly vailed threats that the reviewer made.  With the wide availability of tools given to those in business this type of approach can allow for a better light to be cast rather than a at face value review which could be one sided and inappropriate based on the whole situation rather than just part of the situation.  It is helpful to all to consider that businesses have the option to choose to handle things in their own way, but the business will often fair better if they have the ability to handle things well, like this business owner did. In my personal opinion, this type of response is far better than the new pay options that have become available to remove poor reviews.
