Business responsablity to the public

This week’s (final) blog topic explores a possible ethical dilemma.  The purpose of this assignment is to discuss what responsibilities a business owner has to the public.  I believe that, regardless of the time and effort required, a business person does have responsibility to communicate effectively to the public.  Regardless of customer base, the needs of the public will always be primary to any business.  For example, say that your business is a manufacturing plant that makes then ships items to other places to sell.  Yes, something that happens locally will not affect the consumer, however the conduct of the person(s) in charge of the plant will become publicly apparent.  For example, websites such as Yelp could include information which could directly affect consumers based on reviews made by local people.  Additional other websites and news outlets can show negative information (true or not) which would affect the company bottom line.  This can become an issue because this type of negative information becomes detrimental to a company.  After all, what consumer knowingly wants to do business with a company who has been accused of improperly dumping their waste or trash, have poor work environments for their employees, or does not appear friendly in any other way.  The importance of good business practices is overwhelmingly important regardless of business type because consumers expect aboveboard behavior from the companies that they do business with.  Happy consumer’s increases business as a direct result of good and positive business practices.

Forcast of Empolyment Growth

This week our blog post task is to answer the following question:

Which industries and job categories are forecast to experience the greatest growth—and therefore the greatest demand for workers—in the next 10 years?

It is not at all surprising that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics that the most expected growth will occur within the health care field.  Various health related occupations including personal care aids, RNs, home health aids are expected to increase in need by 6-38% respectively by the year 2024 (Employment Projections).   Additional employees will also be needed in labor type jobs including construction, cleaners, and for movement of various types of goods by 6-13% (Employment Projections).   Finally the need for customer service skills will not decrease within the next ten years.  The need for various service related positions including those in retail, clerks, and sales will increase 6-8% (Employment Projections).   While this information may not be surprising, it is worthy of being notable.  Through paying attention to the job market it allows those who are new to the job market or looking to make a change make an informed choice for the long term needs of employers.  With the proper planning and skills anyone can prepare themselves to be in a position to be employable long term regardless of the bumps within the economy.

Blog Topic #8:

This week our assignment is: Assume that your college president has received many student complaints about campus parking problems. You are appointed to chair a student committee organized to investigate the problems and recommend solutions.

Parking Issue Process For Committee Review
·         Inadequate Student Parking Spaces
o   Parking needs during high attendance times
§  Designated motorcycle parking needed
§  Student Parking in areas around campus
§  Parking fees charged
·         Parking fees for night students
o   Lighting of parking lots during night classes
§  UPD courtesy and assistance needs / functions
·         Vandalism
·         Harassment
·         Possible Committee Focus Needs
o   Project mission Statement
o   Plan to share discussion for transparency to student population
o   Goal time-frame to come up with a compromise
·         End Results needed
o   Time-frame goal established for resolution
o   Plan to roll out changes

The end result of following an outline such as this would serve to set time limits and make goals apparent for the entire committee which serves to allow the committee to use their time well and establish a clear goal for their meeting time.  Student issues such as this (or really issues for any group) rely on organized goals and outlines serve to allow those involved to keep the best interest of the whole on task.
